The first community you reach is Key Largo which extends from mile marker 108 to 91. Key Largo has been designated the “Dive Capital of the World” and boasts the most phenomenal diving and snorkeling experiences in all of the Florida Keys island chain. Enjoy water sports and eco-tours at the John Pennekamp State Park which was the first undersea park in the country and spans 178 nautical square miles forming the largest living coral reefs in the continental United States. This park is among the most spectacular and diverse of all living coral reef communities in the world. In addition, there are several artificial reefs established with the sinking of large historically significant vessels in the waters surrounding Key Largo. These wrecks create an amazing underwater adventure that has thrilled visitors for many years. Key Largo is also home to a fantastic community park that features ball fields, playgrounds, a skate park and two pools with a pirate ship for young swimmers.
The island of Key Largo is only 45 minutes from the mainland, which is far enough away to enjoy the relaxed island vibe of the fabulous Florida Keys. The island community of about 13,000 people has many shops and restaurants along the beautifully landscaped Overseas Highway, as well as an A-rated elementary school (K-8). The Key Largo real estate market encompasses the most sought after and spectacular open water properties in the Upper Keys. There are also many enchanting and comfortable residential subdivisions making the community a nice place to live and work.
